Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

This is purely (well, mostly) a review of the pizza at Trattoria 225. There is an art to pizza--it starts with the crust--it should have a crunch, but not a crisp. The dough needs to support the ingredients and the ingredients, sauce, toppings, cheese all need to combine and not fight. (The recipe for world peace). On a quiet Sunday night, this restaurant served pizza perfection! Their menu offers a wide variety of choices for pizza to go along with a build your own approach. I deliberated, sorting out the many possibilities--finally, realizing that the test should come from a build your own pepperoni and sausage pie. Wow! The crust comes from a wood burning fire. Whole wheat. Yes, crunch, not crisp. The ingredients, each and every one, were a delight. To sing the praises of one, the fennel spicy sausage was spicy, but not overwhelming, bringing a taste of Italy with each bite. So you know where this review is headed--5 star land, but let me add a few further comments. Our waitress was personable and attentive. The two spacious rooms are relaxed and city rustic--great. The other meals ordered by others, not pizza, all looked great. Wine is by the glass. Judging by the Chianti I had, very good. AND!!!--They have a gluten free menu, through and through. Bravo!

I have so much love for this place! It's so hard to find good Italian food since I already know how to make really good pizza and pasta. Highly recommend the Duck Con Fit or chopped Italian salad or my favorite is "The Goat" pizza!! Not to mention their weekly seasonly specials they are always offering. Don't forget that they offer two for one pizza nights on Tuesdays! Great location nestled in the heart of the Arts District in Oak Park. Tons of fabulous local artists display their work for free and I adore their bar area in case you just want a drink. I have brought several family members and friends here and they have all highly enjoyed their food. Hope you enjoy your food as much as I have!

The dessert is a total rip off. I ordered from Grub Hub and got the apple crostata which had zero flavor for $7.95 and then ordered a few flavors of gelato for $4.00 each. That was the most disappointing part was the size of them. I was expecting at least a pint and it was a 1/4 cup of each! I'm so not kidding. Not worth the price. Maybe I am cheap but I feel completely cheated.

I've eaten here a few times now. This would be midway between a 3 and a 4 for me. The pizza is very good, and is the main reason I have gone and will go back here, but I've been underwhelmed by the pasta for a place that calls itself a trattoria. The last time I ordered lasagna there was something "off" about the tomato sauce, which is like the one thing an Italian restaurant shouldn't be messing up. So all in all I view it as a decent middle of the road place.

Excellent service all around. The server was very attentive and the owner made sure he touched base with every table. Started with the 225 pizza which had a great sauce and then the sun-dried tomato and walnut penne pasta which is vegan friendly. Has local artwork for sale which doubles for a great atmosphere. Definitely worth a trip!

Italian is one of my favorite cuisines- so comforting, hearty, and simple. That being said, I have tried lots of italian spots around Chicago, and Trattoria 225 falls in the middle as solidly average. The interior and service are nice but nothing stellar. I had the Linguine ai Frutti Di Mare, which comes with sautéed shrimp, mussels and calamari in a spicy marinara sauce. The dish was lukewarm and mildly bland, but I was still able to enjoy it. I did really like the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Not a bad option, but definitely not my first.
(3)Jeff L.
Great family restaurant. Fresh pizzas will distract you from everything else on the menu, but you really can't go wrong. Trattoria had been seeking GF options for quite a while and is the best/local restaurant for GF food+drink.
(4)Patricia S.
Dave the bartender is great! He's very professional, personable and knowledgable about wines. I ordered an appetizer and wine at the bar. He provided excellent, attentive, excellent quality service without being disruptive. I was impressed with his attention to detail and genuine interest in customer service. I highly recommend Trattoria's bar due to the exceptional service which stands out amongst its competitors.
(5)Karen G.
Attentive hot waiter, yummy short rib ravioli and nice selection of wine and beer. They did not have the garlic and oil dressing pasta my mom wanted on the menu so they made it special for her exactly how she wanted. She said it was delish!
(3)Melissa B.
I think my expectations were a little high for this place. I was expecting the food and service to be a lot better than it was. Nothing was terrible. It was all just very average. There are several better options in the area. We started with the antipasto plate which was just weird. It was by far my least favorite presentation of one I have ever seen. It was certainly not big enough for more than 2 people either. The grilled vegetables on it were cold and had been grilled earlier in the day or previous day? Gross. I ordered the salmon vesuvio for my main dish. The salmon was actually good. The potatoes and broccoli in the dish were not. It's shocking to me that they can get the salmon right and don't have some fresh veggies around to throw in the dish. I skipped dessert because I had banana cream pie waiting back at the house. The server was so slow I probably would have skipped it anyways though. She was very sweet just way to slow for a Saturday night! My friend lives one block away from here and we will probably never walk over for dinner again. I would prefer getting in my car and driving a few blocks to better restaurants.

A group I knit with started coming here two weeks ago once a week. I am a fan. The manager has been accommodating. The wait staff very attentive. We all like the food, the beet salad and portabello mushroom are outstanding. We tend to eat smaller things and drink. My iced tea was refilled all evening....a sign of good staff.
(4)Rachel M.
The pizza was ok. The beet salad needed a better balance of flavors. We sat outside and it was a nice ambiance with music and umbrellas. The service was the downfall of this place. Our server took a long time to come back each time. Our salad arrived at the same time as the pizza. We had to wait for our check and then even longer for her to bring back our credit card. They never refilled our drinks during the whole long ordeal. The pizza was $16 for a 10"- seemed a bit over priced.

I am sending out another great review for this lovely restaurant. The food, drinks and service are wonderful. All the staff here are so nice and accommodating. Food and specials are always very good. Dave is a great bartender and will provide you with something so nice to quench your thirst and to go well with your food. They serve a nice selection of wines and also rotating taps with a good craft beer offerings! Martini's are the best and you need to try the Rosemary Lemonade. Bill and his staff run a great place! Book your next party here you will not be disappointed.
(5)Kristin S.
Really nice atmosphere, friendly host/manager, lost a star for the service staff. Seriously mediocre and distracted server. Food was amazing though and love that everything is available gluten free without sacrificing flavor. Loved the fact that there was so much great local art decorating the place- really a nice warming feature. I'll be back!

Went there last night and tried the wood fired pizza; the Wiseguy with tomato sauce, roasted peppers, caramelized onion, spicy italian sausage, and 'house cheese.' I was told the house cheese was a blend of mozzarella, provolone and parmesan. It wasn't bad, the sauce was passable, but I didn't really care for the crust; it was a bit on the doughy side. I like mine cracker crisp, but that's just me. For a wood fired pizza I expected it to be a tad smokier flavor, and I sure expected the crust to be a little more crispy. The salad was just okay and the dressing was next to non existent. Needless to say I would have appreciated a choice of French, Thousand Island or the thin oil and vinegar which the latter of which they gave me. The bread was probably the best part with the oil and cheese. There were four in our party and we got out of there for about $100.00 before tip. The service was okay; granted it was a Friday night and the place was bustling. On the whole I'd say I likely won't be back here, just a little too pretentious for me. I love food and enjoy cooking or else I would not be so critical of such a well intentioned place; I'm lucky I don't weigh 300 pounds :-) Not totally down on the place though; nice dining room, your experience may possibly be different- if you're not as fussy as I am. Frankly, the pizza was better warmed up in my oven where the dough got a bit crispier. Cheers!
(2)Alice S.
Was really excited to try the snazzy outdoor seating (dog friendly!) but overall a pretty bad experience! -Service was unfriendly and cold. -Asked if house salad could be a little Caesar salad instead. Waiter said there was only one size of Caesar salad, but then didn't take any money off for the upgrade. AND charged for a house salad of someone else too. -Got the ravioli: only FIVE pieces of ravioli...for 17 dollars, served luke warm, and the spinach was undercooked and wet -Dinner companion got the risotto which was tasty but served way way too hot to eat for about ten minutes Left feeling ripped off for such a lousy meal! Skip this place!

I ordered delivery to try this place out for the first time, so my review is based on that experience alone. I had the margherita pizza and cheesecake. The pizza was fresh and the ingredients were good, but the proportions weren't quite right: not enough cheese, too much sauce and the dough didn't taste as light/doughy as you'd want it to. (Lake Street Kitchen and Bar's flatbreads are way better!) The cheesecake was pretty meh. I'll give this place the benefit of the doubt and try dining in at some point, but I wouldn't recommend for delivery. (Although they did deliver really quickly!)
(3)Todd K.
We walked over to try it out and were very pleased with the overall experience. There was a number of options on the menu, both our appetizer and pasta dishes tasted great and the service was excellent. It's not quite the caliber of some of the great Italian restaurants we grew accustomed to in the city, but this isn't too far behind.
(4)Ryan M.
We love this place. It's great for both date nights and family dinners. Service is great and drinks are well done. The menu is consistent. I wish they would add a few more seasonal items. We just tried their delivery service last week and it was fast and hot. Can't wait to go back next week and get the beet salad and pasta.
(4)Angela C.
Ooh mama. I think it might be a dangerous thing that this place is practically next door to my apt. We went in the middle of the Harrison street arts festival and it was only a 20 minute wait. Not bad at all. The grilled vegetable app special was amazing! Beautiful presentation to boot. I had The Goat pizza minus the house cheese and it was delicious. My wife ate some of it even though she despises Italian sausage because of the fennel seeds.... That tells you how good it was. Se ordered the linguine bolognese and really enjoyed it. It's such a strange combination of flavors that work surprisingly well together. I will definitely be going back. They also deliver and do carry out. That cinches it!
(4)Rachel B.
I live in the neighborhood and I really wanted to love this place. For what they charge I was expecting much better than what I received. There are so many better Italian restaurants to go to. It's really too bad because the Arts Districts needs some good restaurants. Sadly, there are none.
(2)Diana F.
Did not taste like Italian food, more like microwaveable frozen food. That's all I gotta say.
(2)Jennifer O.
I love this place for its location, soup, pizza, bread, Caesar salad. I wish it was consistent. That said, we've had to send items back. Anytime we've sent food back it has been taken care of quickly and with pleasure. My biggest recco would be to beef up the wine selection a bit. The selection of whites is not very good. Maybe a cava, rose, a better Chardonnay....a fine italian restaurant should have great wine. Doesn't have to be expensive wine!!
(4)Lynn H.
This is our neighborhood restaurant and while I always have great service and find the restaurant to be friendly - the food is only so so. Pizzas are good but the menu needs to tuned up.
(3)Michelle M.
I use to work at this establishment and I want to like this place but what restaurant now a days does not have fresh ground pepper? Im writing tihis review as I eat my meal. Bartender is very nice and informative of wine. AHA! He just learned after 6m that they DO have pepper mills at this place. Training needs to be better obviously?????? Im writing review for management more than anything because training not so good.

Years ago, I walked the art district stretch of Harrison Street in Oak Park. Just happening upon this hidden section of Oak Park, I was also pleasantly surprised to find an Italian eatery in the area. Italian restaurants are common, but it's the good ones that make lasting impressions. I returned with a friend for dinner and glad of it. She had the Atlantic char that tasted like a well-prepared salmon along with a mixture of greens and beans. Oh was it a wonder to the palate. I ordered a linguine ai frutti de mare, which was linguine with shrimp, calamari, and clams. When calamari is cooked such that it loses its rubbery texture and your teeth simply sinks through, then you have something worth writing home about. We had dessert of tiramisu and this was made fresh, evident in the taste. Also, we had the flight of creme brulee: regular, coffee, and mocha. Hello, lover. Much like what seems to be a common thing in Oak Park establishments, the manager spoke with us as we were leaving. Now I understand the draw to a lot of Oak Park businesses. Certainly for the restaurants, the food is top, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere seems to beg for your return. I know I will go back to Trattoria 225.
(5)Lucy R.
Their gluten-free pizza is the best in the area and if you go on Tuesdays they have 2 for 1 pizzas. Occasionally there seem to be private events on Tuesdays so be sure to call ahead. Their salads and desserts are also delicious. Most of the time the noise level is fine but occasionally the music is too loud to talk.
(4)Tina C.
Food is super under par. Fish not fresh at all. I had to send it back....and I never send food back. Cute area and decent service but the food is way under excitement here.
(1)Julie C.
Tasty twists on traditional Italian dishes! The wait staff is always quick and friendly, and the rotating displays of independent art make for a quirky, fun environment. Additionally, the owners are supportive members of the community!
(4)Mike M.
Excellent atmosphere, courteous and attentive staff, and outstanding food. Parking can be a challenge, but it's worth it. Braised short ribs and risotto are the best I've ever had. Mushroom ravioli - made in house - and vodka sauce is outstanding as well.
(5)Daisy R.
I was just here for a holiday party. The food was so good! I love calamari, I've always tried fried calamari and their grilled calamari is amazing!! I'm so happy. I also tried the salmon loved the potato but the sauce felt like a bit much on the fish itself BUT it's still good to eat. For a first timer I enjoyed it a lot and the server was so nice. Good service. Very happy.
(4)Kate P.
Went with friends and everyone enjoyed their meal, the beer and the service. One exception was the vegan entree I ordered, a sun-dried tomato penne dish with walnuts and "seared tofu." Please take the tofu out. it does not go with the dish. The walnuts give it plenty of protein. Kudos to Trattoria 225 for offering vegan entrees. Please consider my suggestion as I would not order this dish again the way it is.

My husband and I were having some holiday visitors in from out of town, and since Trattoria 225 is one of the few restaurants in Oak Park that's safe for people with gluten allergies, we made reservations almost a week in advance for a Saturday evening. With just about 24 hours in advance of our reservation, Trattoria 225 called and left us a voicemail cancelling our reservation due to "a mix up with Open Table." The restaurant was actually closed for a private event despite us being able to make a reservation through Open Table several days prior. We attempted to call and speak with the manager to see if anything could be done for the trouble. The voicemail that the restaurant left for us even instructed us to call the manager back. However, the hostess who fielded the call not only wouldn't let us speak to the manager, but she also basically just shrugged her shoulders and said there was nothing that could be done, and hung up. I'm disappointed in the way that this was handled, and felt like they should have offered a small discount or at a very minimum been pro-active about rescheduling our reservations for another non-private-party date. Alas, we ended up having to cancel dinner all together and telling our visitors not to make the trip because we didn't have another suitable gluten-free-friendly restaurant to take them to. So while my review can't speak to the food at this time, based on our reservations being cancelled and the service we received in trying to remedy the situation, I feel a single star rating is deserved at this time.

This is a pretty nice place - I enjoyed being here, overall. Their strength is pizza. My husband ordered chicken, I had butternut squash ravioli, we shared a grilled eggplant, and all of it was too heavy, too dry, too drenched in oil, or just bland. The pizza is terrific though - I'd say skip the rest. We arrived early, and it was not just kid-friendly, it was kid frenzied. Kids that walk. Kids that run. Kids that don't eat much. Be forewarned. The service was really nice though, and they have champagne, so it was all good.
(3)Comensal A.
We stopped in on a recent weeknight to see if things had improved since our last visit some years ago. It was pretty much the same as we remembered: meh. There is better trattoria fare in the area (Cucina Paradiso, Caffe di Luca, Frnacesca's Fiore) -- and I can certainly do better at home. To be fair, the bread was terrific, though the oil/cheese slurry served with it was kind of sour/bitter (we first thought the oil might be rancid, but eventually blamed the cheese). We had high hopes for a salad of arugula, caramelized fennel and pancetta -- OK, but not what it could have been due to wilted (not caramelized) fennel and limp (not crispy) pancetta. My short rib entrée was a bit chewy, but OK. My companion's sausage risotto had tasty sausage, but the risotto was a bit sticky/gloppy (not creamy). There's a compact, serviceable wine list of $30 bottles. Otherwise, the wood & brick room was attractive and the staff friendly. If I was in the neighborhood with friends I might drop in for dinner, but I won't go out of my way given the better Oak Park area options.
(2)James D.
Took a great friend out for his fiftieth B Day with his six year old son, we had a great time, great wine list, nice room and great staff. I had a Duck pasta, that I'm still thinking about how much I enjoyed.
(4)Joe S.
Worse Italian I've ever had. Bread was brick hard, hallow and served in wax paper. House salad was a joke and generic. Ordered Penne paste marinara with spicy fennel sausage. Sauce seemed like it came from Costco with chopped up beef. The spicy was nonexistent. My date ordered Mussels, Clams and linguini. Pasta was watered down, the clams and mussels were not fresh. We ate half our plates. For 64 bucks I would recommend to keep driving down Harrison to the nearest McDonalds 64 times for the dollar menu. Embarrassment to all the Chefs and restaurant owners out there. I never yelp so this holds some substance.
(1)Mary J. C.
I've been meaning to write a review here but I've been forgetting...so better late than never! So I've had the pizza from here a few times I'm not gonna lie I'm a sucker for a good deal and the pizza special they have is great, especially when I want something different that the usual suspects. Give the goat and 3 little pigs a try, but I've been thru most of the choices and I haven't been disappointed. The service isn't my favorite especially at first they were very short and dry, but they have since redeemed themselves.
(4)Megan R.
Great pizza and service. I have been thinking of the prosciutto wrapped mozzarella appetizer for almost three weeks. Good thing I'm heading back there Wednesday!
(4)randi z.
Had a lovely dinner there last might. I had the spaghetti carbonara which has prosciutto and mushrooms, non- traditional but very good as was the salad caprese with heirloom tomatoes. The bf had the pizza special - crispy pancetta and carmelized onions- which he liked very much. Nice room, only minus was server was sweet but could have been more attentive.
(4)Brian R.
Went on a Monday evening with reservation in hand, though we could have walked right in and got a table. Grabbed a drink at the bar up front first which was totally vacant. Yes, it was a Monday but was kind of a bland setup without much in the way of charm or energy. Once we were seated we were served a loaf of warm brews with olive oil and parmesan - simple, guaranteed way to score points. Our server seemed kind of detached. Not rude necessarily but I'm hoping he wasn't their A-team. I got the filet and vegetables. The meat was cooked just as I asked, but seemed a little more oiled up than places that specialize. Overall, satisfactory. A little pricy but I would go back on a Thursday or weekend to try a pasta dish and see how their prime-time dining experience compares to a mundane Monday.
(3)Beth M.
Had my baby shower here and the owner Bill is so nice and accommodating. We had about 50 guests and everyone raved about the breakfast brunch. I know this is no longer available on Sunday mornings, but I just wanted to share my review on the restaurant. The restuarant wasn't even open to the public yet, so we had the entire restaurant to ourselves. This was such a nice touch for a private event. Everyone really loved the buffett. Our guests were going up multiple times for more food and everyone was raving about the French toast, waffles and the omelet station. I will return to Trattoria for dinner soon. Can't wait to try all the specials. Thanks again for making our party a success! Everyone was impressed!
(5)susana e.
The service was good, the food was great! I had the chicken parmessan and it was a large chicken breast with pasta and marinara sauce. I didn't need a knife to cut the chicken - it was so tender. The marinara sauce was fresh and tasty. My niece had the pizza and it was delicious with a homemade taste. We also had the pasta primavera and the vegetables (broccoli, spinach) were fresh and not overcooked. The sauce was not overpowering so you could taste the veggies and pasta. The best part was the dessert- that chocolate bundt cake comes out warm, with a scoop of ice-cream on top...it's not a huge piece, but 3 people shared it. Yum!! The cheesecake was also delicious. It's a kid friendly place- they have a children's menu. I noticed a lot of neighborhood people who walked in. They also can cook gluten-free upon request. We had a great time and didn't feel rushed.
(5)Jide F.
Great experience overall. I had dinner here last week and I enjoyed the service and atmosphere. I ordered the risotto and asked if they could make it vegeterian because I couldn't eat meat and seafood at the time. On the menu the options are chicken and shrimp and I couldn't do either. I asked our server and he checked with the kitchen and said it was no problem at all. I'm glad they were so accommodating. The food came out fairly quickly. They threw in zucchini and mushroom in the risotto and it was tasty. It was tiny bit dry for me because I like a really creamy and almost soup-like risotto. However, I still enjoyed it. The dinner price was reasonable and I'll definitely be back.

I amy have reviewed this before but they have new owners so I thought it was worth a revisit. Menu is pretty much the same, which is to say, WONDERFUL. I love the wood over pizzas, the salads are delicious, the pastas are creative and chock full of awesome, and the appetizers are always amazing too. The fresh crusty bread they give you when you are seated, accompanied by olive oil, is also a nice touch. My only complaint about the place, something they still have not addressed, is that it's always noisy in there. It's hardwood with exposed brick, which has a lot of charm, but also does a great job of echoing noise from the entire restaurant, as well as the noisy bar that often plays sports that is attached. As long as we can sit outside, and it's not too hard as long as you get there at the beginning of the dinner hour, it's a lovely experience. If you don't mind having to raise your voice a little on occasion to hear eachother you might be fine inside. ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY try the grilled ceasar salad. It sounds crazy, but it is one of the tastiest salads I have ever had. Their salads are quite large, so unless it is your entire meal plan to share it and have room for a great pizza ro pasta dish. The Goat pizza is also my favorite but the fun-guy (mushroom) is really good too. One of these days I am going to try the brunch on Sundays!
(4)Ken G.
Although it's an Oak Park restaurant, this place is right up there with the best Italian restaurants in Chicago. The main thing you need to know is they have really good pizza. My first time there we ordered a gluten-free pizza because my friend is allergic to gluten. It was great, one of the best pizzas I've had. I've now been there several times with my wife and kids and have tried almost everything. All the pasta is good, the eggplant lasagna rocks and the filet mignon steak was phenomenal. They have a good wine list and lots of craft beer options. My daughters are vegans and they have some great vegetarian options and salads for them as well. The staff is very nice and the place is family-friendly. This is now our go-to place when we want to treat ourselves to a great meal in Oak Park.
(5)Jen A.
It's really hard to find great gluten-free menus in the area, so my husband was ecstatic to find that Trattoria 225 has an extensive list of gluten-free pizzas. We've ordered several pizzas, but the Three Little Pigs and the Greek Pizzas are our favorites. You would never tell that these pizzas were gluten free-- the crust is thin, crispy and delicious! I've also had a few salads and appetizers here (try the calamari!) and thought they were fantastic. We've also dined in the restaurant and I think the ambiance, service and decor are all charming. We used to go all the way to Da Luciano's in River Grove for gluten-free Italian, but Trattoria 225 is much closer and way better in terms of food.
(4)K B.
A year later and we used this place for our pre-wedding dinner, as it's in our hood and was the only place big enough to accommodate our party. Bill, the owner, was very helpful in coordinating the event with my mother-in-law, who lives out of town. The set-up was cozy, the food, served family-style, was good and our servers were very prompt and friendly. I'd go back.
(4)Becky H.
After a particularly tough day of being pissed off at the food in my fridge because they were NOT PIZZA... my better half calmed me down with the promise of picking up a GF pizza for me. :) GF Pepperoni for me, and a regular three lil' pigs for the boys. Happy bellies all around. Seriously, people... gluten free pizza is gross. I didn't move to the deep dish mecca of Chicago only to get a gluten-free life sentence 3 years later, but here I am. We're not suburban enough to have an aurelios (and their hawaiian GF pizza is ok)... and that place up north by the polish cosmetology school... eh. not impressed. I will definitely be back here all the time for the closest thing i've found to good pizza without deliciously forbidden gluten.
(4)David R.
I will make my review short and sweet: Having been our first time eating at Trattoria225, all I can say is: Deliciously Awesome! In a nutshell: We will be back!

These guys are amazing! The gluten free pizza and salads are awesome. Their delivery is prompt and pleasant. I heartily recommend!

My boyfriend lives down the block from here so we decided to try it. After checking their website, we decided to go on Tuesday evenings for their 2 for 1 specials on their wood-fire pizzas. I must say, we have definitely become regulars! We go about twice a month. Being a vegetarian with meat-lover friends, this place is nice to go to for their pizzas since they have a good mix of vegetable and meaty pizzas. And the pizzas are delicious!!!! Personal favorite: Bianca and the Greek, both have tons of flavor and is good EVERY time. Their house wine selection is also amazing. Personal favs are the cabernet and pinot grigio. The first time we went, we ordered dessert and we are pretty snobby when it comes to desserts (he's a pastry chef) and their dessert is definitely frozen and not made to order. However, I would recommend their pizzas ANY day. We have brought several of our friends here and none of us have ever complained. They also serve freshly baked bread and olive oil topped with parm as their free app and that is probably my favorite part! You can't beat an amazing olive oil. The wait staff is also extremely friendly and nice as well.

It's never been the same since they changed owners. The pizza is still excellent, but why did they have to change the menu? they eliminated the shrimp scampi and totally changed the recipe for tiramisu for the worse. I went to the Sunday brunch. The place was empty except for one more table. for $20.00/person I would have expected a better selection, or at least high quality/tasty items. I keep wanting them to have more customers and to be great, but I keep getting disappointed. We'll probably keep coming back just because there are not many sit-down places in the area.
(3)Amanda R.
My husband and I came here with another couple on a Sunday night. Their house wine is pretty decent. I had the portobello ravioli and it was awesome. My husband got the seafood pasta and was disappointed. For a Sunday they seemed under staffed. The bartender was also the hostess and our server, so he was running around like crazy. In all it was good but we probably won't be going back.

This place is ok at best. I've come here twice and the food is slightly below average which I find surprising since Italian is not hard to do. The atmosphere is nice though and street parking is usually easy to find. If I want Italian in OP though, would probably head back to Bella Pasteria which is much nicer I think.

Service was very good. Spacious, comfortable atmosphere. Menu had good variety & everything we had was great. Loved the risotto with chicken!

While enjoying the Oak Park Arts District "Art on Harrison" and the grand opening of my college roommate's studio, my bf and I came in here to have lunch. When seated, we got the hot mini loaf of sourdough bread, it was delicious. It was also served with olive oil and shredded cheese. It definitely helped to satisfy our hunger. From the lunch menu, I got the ravioli while the bf got a grilled chicken panini. It was served a side salad or soup. Both of us chose the soup; minestrone. The minestrone was too busy and too filled with everything from celery to potatoes. It was good, but not the best minestrone that I've ever had. When the entree came, it was delicious. My ravioli had goat cheese, another cheese, and artichokes in it for the filling. It was excellent and very satisfying. I heard that the panini was delicious. The service was fantastic. We had a very attentive waitress who provided us with great service. The decor of the place was nice and definitely rustic Italian like. Overall, the food was definitely above average, just not terribly memorable. The pizzas looked good and next time I'll try one of those. It's a good place to go for a solid Italian meal.

Can I just have a giant order of the herb risotto? AMAZING. That's really all I have to say.
(4)D W.
We used to love this place but no more. Hadn't been for a while and decided to give it another try. . . I think we won't go back. The mussels were terrible and there was a hair in my salad. The waitress didn't seem to care about that and we were surprised that nothing was offered to compensate - a dessert on the house is always a cheap and good way to repair goodwill especially when there are children at the table!

We were pretty excited when a new restaurant was opening up within walking distance of our place, but I've been here twice and hated it both times. Cold soup, undercooked pasta (to the point of being crunchy), terrible service. Knowing not to reach across the table in front someone's face when you can just walk around to the other side is pretty basic. On our first visit the tables were so crammed together, I couldn't even get up. The wood fired pizza was average, at best.

Exactly right for take-out/delivery when you want to eat at home and you want something fresh, delicious, and different -- you just don't want to cook it yourself tonight. Wonderful fish dishes, pastas, and pizzas - they even make gluten-free pizza for those who need that, and I hear that's not easy to find.

I am too blissfully full of the delicious Italian food I had at Trattoria 225 to write a lengthy review. I have been meaning to come here for so long that I am actually mad at myself for putting it off so long. Really fabulous space that would be at home in any cosmopolitan city. Its spacious and warm with high ceilings and a really nice vibe. One of my favorite things (and I'm a geek like this) is that the space flows really nicely, the tables are really nicely spaced and the sound level is chill, not too loud, even when packed. Although there were tons of kids (albeit cool kids) dining when I was there, I never heard a peep from of them because of the layout. On to the food: Mozzarella con Proscuitto is my new bff. Beautiful fresh mozzarella wrapped with melt-in-your-mouth proscuitto, lightly grilled, just enough to soften the cheese to a soft creamy disk. Set atop a drizzle of the freshest pesto this side of Genoa. (Seriously, I am a pesto freak and this stuff is perfetto!). Torn between pasta and pizza, I went for the pizza because I love a wood fired pizza more than most things in life. A little crustier than I am used to but certainly delicious. There are several options on the menu and they were super accommodating when I made a tiny improv on mine. The warm crusty La Briola baguette is to die for, make sure you eat it when it arrives and is melt in your mouth yummy! My dinner companion ordered the pork wrapped in bacon (yes, pork wrapped in bacon!) and it was divine and the portion was extremely generous. Wine list is concise and an exceptionally good bargain by the bottle. I saw a few of my life long friends on there-Honig Sauvignon Blanc and Tomarasca. If I didn't have to drive home, I would have had more but the Riesling by the glass was wonderful. Dessert list is short but sweet with a nice offering of assorted gelato and sorbetto as well as panna cotta, tiramisu, molten chocolate cake and housemade cannoli. Every item is a sure hit. Mango sorbetto is probably going to be my summer crush. Service was outstanding! Thanks Susie! And the owner Craig is a great guy who is truly passionate about what he does. Its nice to see someone living their dream with such passion and enthusiasm.

My partner and I come here fairly often. The staff has always been very friendly and accommodating and they have started to recognize us when we come in which is a nice touch! I have to tell you that the martinis here are excellent! They are some of the best martinis I've had! Now, I'm talking classic martini...Grey Goose, straight up with a twist or Bombay Sapphire, straight up, 2 olives. I can't speak for the froofy martinis but with the classics being this good, who cares? They have a few very enjoyable wines as well. The food has been very good although I wish it was a bit less expensive. I also wish that there were more vegetarian options on the menu. However, they have been very accommodating in terms of making substitutions. That said, you might want to ask for some crushed red pepper for your pasta dish if it's one that you've asked them to take the meat out of. The flavor has sometimes been lacking. The pizzas are great. I have not been disappointed and their special pizza is usually pretty creative and tasty. The atmosphere is nice, drinks are good, food is good, staff is nice. That's good enough for me!

It took just one visit, a couple of years ago when Trattoria 225 opened its doors, for my husband and I to become Trattoria addicts! An emphasis on local and organic ingredients is a clear theme on this menu, as are creative dishes, robust flavors, and hearty portions. The pizza is a must-have and the menu offers about a dozen "not your run of the mill" varieties. Our favorites include "The Goat," with Italian sausage, goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and pesto...as well as the BLT with prosciutto, arugula, and tomatoes. Starting with a cup of minestrone and an antipasto salad is a great way to take in some of Trattoria's other offerings. Because the pizza is so fantastic, we haven't yet tried any of Trattoria's pastas or entrees, though we've heard they're good. Initially, Trattoria's wine prices were strikingly below those of other restaurants but I've noticed in the past few months that those prices have gone up just a bit and are now in line with what you'd pay at other comparable establishments. That said, the selection is good and compliments their food nicely. A full selection of artisan beers and cheeses is also another element that makes Trattoria really stand out. Also recommend you try their housemade limencello! Finally, an eclectic collection of artwork complements the color scheme and lighting to give Trattoria a warm yet modern ambiance. I give Trattoria a strong 4 stars but hesitate to go the full 5 as there have been a few times where our service was less than we had hoped for. This would be the only opportunity for improvement I could think for Trattoria. While reservations aren't required, it is rare that you'll see many open tables, particularly during prime times on Friday and Saturday evenings. You can always count on a welcoming atmosphere, personal interaction with the owners, and a satsifying meal leaving you with a lasting impression.

I ended up going to Trattoria 225 because my preferred destination for Italian fare is closed on Mondays. I won't be back. My waiter was courteous and all-around gave excellent service, but there's simply no excuse for the small portion size. $14 for five ravioli? No soup included? No thanks. While there might somewhere exist ravioli that are worth paying three dollars a piece for, these weren't them. Not bland by any means, but not memorable, either. All in all, the food tasted alright, but I expect to be stuffed for fourteen dollars, not consciously eating slowly so I'm not hungry when I'm done. Seriously, five ravioli. Not even big ravioli. Five. Regular. Sized. Ravioli. Again, the server was excellent, but I was pretty disappointed, and won't be back. Especially not with so many better options in the area.

I really do enjoy this place. Although my husband and I always like to try new places, this one has made it on to our list of repeats. Why you ask? For starters, MOST of the pizzas and pastas are very good. I'm not a fan of the whole menu, but there are several tasty options. Plus, it's kid friendly which you might not expect from the trendy look of the interior. My favs - the goat and the greek pizzas. And most recently I've added their homemade lemoncello! Unfortunately, it's not a five start pick because it lacks the crucial "good service". My best experience with the wait staff has been adequate. Too bad.

My friend Tere kept insisting that we try this great wood fire pizza. First we tried the grilled calamari rings. These were delicious. I could tell they were a bit smoked as well and they still had that fried yummy taste but I could eat them guilt free knowing that they were grilled. We had a delicious beet salad with goat cheese and walnuts. This salad was so fresh and tasty. Finnaly, we had the goat pizza and the greek pizza. Although I love mediterranean ingredients like feta cheese, calamata olives and red onions in this instance I preferred the goat cheese pizza. The goat cheese pizza had the creamist piece of goat cheese and it also came with sauasge (my friend ordered this one so I didn't look at the ingredients closely). That goat pizza was to die for. So delicious and comforting. What I loved most is that we arrived an hour before they open for the evening. We were there at 4:05 and they are officially open at 5pm. The guy at the door (not sure if he was the owner of the place or the manager) was the nicest person. He took us directly to a table. You can't turn business down in this economy. By the time we left it must have been 6:30 and the restaurant was filled with friends, couples and familes. I will definitely go back many times.

I wouldn't say that pizza is my favorite food, but I probably eat more pizza than any other food. I definitely know my pizza! And this place is my newest obsession. The BLT pizza is sooo addicting! This bad boy is topped with prosciutto, arugula, and tomatoes. And what a tasty trio of ingredients it is! These three ingredients are magical. Trust me, if you you're a fan of prosciutto you will not be disappointed! I especially love the decor and just the overall vibe of this place. They have some great local art on the walls (which makes sense being that Trattoria 225 is located in the Harrison Arts District). The lights are dim and romantic, but like Vanessa said, it has a "warehouse" feel to it at the same time. You kind of feel like you're eating in an art gallery. It's a good feeling. Our service was a little slow and the waiter forgot to bring me my drink (twice) and when he finally did it was incorrect... but I'm not going to count this against him. Everyone has bad days every now and again!
(5)James K.
I had the chicken parmesan and the chicken was terrible. I only give it two stars because the service was good, and they allowed me to take my unfinished bottle of wine to go.
(2)Linda K.
I must say, I had dinner at Trattoria 225 tonight and....every part of our dinner was exquisite. The beet salad, the salmon with sauteed spinach over polenta....FIVE stars. In fact, I realized that the reason I rarely order salmon is that it is almost always overcooked.....not so at Trattoria 225! Don't miss it!
(5)Michael L.
We started the meal with the Antipasto platter which was good, but not great. I think the meat was a bit too salty, but to be fair, maybe that is the way it is prepared. For the main course my wife and I both ordered the Salmon al Balsamico (special) and the Salmon Vesuvio respectively. Both these dishes were extremely good in that the blend of spices, olive oil, and the way they were cooked made for a delicious dining experience. I look forward to coming there again.

This italian restaurant opened 2 blocks away from my apartment just before I moved in. Jackpot!! In the last 2 years Trattoria 225 has become a mainstay restaurant in my life for everything from a quick early dinner to a late night dessert and drink with a friend. The ambiance is beautiful, with simple design, candle-lit tables, a patio during the summer. They have a great wine list and additional list of microbrew beers, dinner every day and brunch on sundays.... My favorites? For an appetizer: The proschetto-wrapped mozzerella is a crowd pleaser! Trust me, just try it. :) Drink? The rosemary lemonade is a must try. Yes, it is nonalcoholic... but take a break from the booze and try this fabulous drink. You won't be disappointed. Salad: Grilled Ceasar salad. Again, just try it! They actually grill the head of romaine lettuce... it's amazing. Dinner? I love the pizzas! The Margherita Pizza is my fav pizza, although I can guarantee their wood-burning oven pizzas are all impressive options (Ranging from BLT to Goat chese). Dessert? I come here frequently for coffee and dessert :) The flourless chocolate cake with pistachios and dried cranberries is one of my favorites! Not to mention that my sister cannot eat gluten... so to be able to have a cake out at a restaurant is unusual and she frequently comes in with me just for this cake!! I have to put in a plug for the seasonal pumpkin creme brulee. I had this at least once a week for a month :) Loved it! I have gone to Trattoria on dates, and with my three nieces under the age of 5 and felt welcome with great service during each visit!!!

This place is awesome!!!!!! I have been going for here for years now and not much has changed in this place and that's a good thing. The menu is simple and I have tried almost all their pizzas. This place has a full bar, great service, and the food is superb! They bread they serve when you are seated is always warm and fresh right out of the oven. The rosemary lemonade is very soothing and fresh. For appetizers I highly recommend prosciutto wrapped mozzarella that is topped with pesto sauce and the baked goat cheese! I high recommend the BLT, the goat, and the FunGuy pizzas. We never leave room for dessert at this place so no suggestions there.
(5)Ron D.
I have only eaten here once and the food was good but the other night the family was up for Pizza and I was flat out tired of the "Usual Suspects". So I jump on Yelp, see T225 under Pizza and decide to give it a try. Fantastic! You can tell they have a real fire burning oven just from the look of the pizza. The taste was right on. They use wheat flour too which is a little healthier for the kiddos. Unfortunately for me when you down 6 slices, the wheat does very little as far as health goes. Another plus was the speed of the delivery, had to be 20-30min tops.
(4)Max C.
This is my favorite restaurant in Oak Park. Whether enjoying some Italian wine at the bar or eating at the table, we always have a good time. The interior is very nice and the service is friendly.
(4)Elka G.
In a word, fine. Nothing spectacular, nothing awful.
(3)Geri O.
Went there based on Yelp reviews. Highly disappointed in the food. There was one other table in the huge restaurant, I can see why. The food was subpar - the penne tasted like the sauce came out of a jar. I had the linguini bolognese - mediocre. Don't waste your money - the Olive Garden is probably better than this place. We didn't finish our food and couldn't wait to get out of there.
(1)Brett R.
Trattoria 225 is our neighborhood go to restaurant, but don't go expecting a quiet evening. It would be better if they kept one side (maybe the side with the bar) open for people who want a nice evening out at restaurant. The other side should feature an over-sized, multi-colored KIDZ ZONE sign with a jungle gym and padded everything, so that all of the children that normally run around your table can play in safety. it's that bad. Oak Park parents have no control. We've tried every pizza and still love the goat pizza the most. The pizza with bacon and arugula is also a winner. Ever appetizer we've eaten was good and the grilled Caeser salad is definitely worth a try.
(4)nina D.
Yum! My husband and I went here for a date night. I agree with comments about the delicious olive oil- and my family is Greek so we know our olive oil. I ordered a yummy fresh salad and my husband had a pizza, which also had fresh ingredients and tasty flavors. I really liked the pizza crust and the perfect amount of cheese. I felt like it was a romantic atmosphere, but people also had their kids there so it can also be a family dining experience. I can't wait until my baby girl is older so we can go to Thursday free kids' night!
(4)Cate T.
Overpriced drinks and mediocre food, although the service was good. The pasta primavera was tasteless, although filled with vegetables, and the chopped salad was nothing to get excited about. There are much better and/or less expensive options in Oak Park and nearby suburbs -- try Cucina Paradiso or the amazing Gaetano's or even Trattoria Peppino on North Avenue.
(2)Summer P.
I really liked this place; I went with a friend on a Friday night and we were quickly seated and attended to by a friendly wait staff. We started with the bread that you get for olive oil dipping; it was definitely a step above what you normally see. As an avid lover of beets, I started with the roasted beet salad with goat cheese -- so, so delicious! For the entree, I opted for the whitefish with roasted potatoes and greens -- also quite good. Since I'm in training and it was a rare night out for my friend, we justified sampling three desserts (the chocolate cake thing, something with apple/ice cream, and the rice pudding). They were all good though I preferred the apple out of the three. There were other things on the menu that looked good so I'd definitely give this place another go if I were in the neighborhood.
(4)Amy T.
I MISS THE OLD OWNER! I've been going to Tuttoria 225 since it has opened. It used to be my favorite place all time for the pizza and clams casino (which they don't have anymore...thanks to BP).... But it seems now with the new owner everything seemed to dramatically slow down and the food quality sadly went down. I visited Tuttoria 225 few days ago and the service was VERY slow. My food was tasteless which was a surprise because it never used to be. I also felt the dish descriptions were not accurate at all. There were only two people in the kitchen slowly cooking, and poor management that was not helping the situation at all. Sadly I have to say if I go back it would be for the pizzas. But otherwise, I think I would take my money elsewhere.
(3)Jo B.
It had been a while since we last tried this place which always looks so inviting from outside. I had forgotten that once you pass through the door, the cozy looking trattoria turns into a cavernous space with zero atmosphere. Tip to the owner, at least try to disguise the entrances to the restrooms...screens, fake wall, plants, anything!! We went pretty early so there were only about five other tables seated and the chefs in the open kitchen were still able to just stand around chatting. Something about that bothers me, maybe that I want to see a little more dedication and enthusiasm in the kitchen. We were served lightning quick with two pizzas and pasta from the kids menu. I was expecting (hoping) to finally be served wood fired thin crust pizza in an OP restaurant but alas! mediocre crust, bland sausage, an over zealous hand with the goat cheese....really really really average. Sigh. The quest for a decent Italian meal in OP continues.
(2)Terra S.
We used to love going to this place under the old management. It was a place you could show up at 6pm with loads of other families and not feel like it was such a burden on the restaurant to have your family there. Needless to say they say they are family friendly but they have no clue and we were chastised before we left for our kids playing in the window area (why the heck did you sit me there with 2 toddlers! it is too tempting for them!). Anyway, the waiter was a complete upseller which sucked because we wanted to get in and out quickly. It's too bad but we won't be back.
(2)Leigh K.
As Tim & Eric would say..."Great job!" We had a nice experience here tonight when we took our friend out for her birthday. The pizza is made with whole wheat crust so you can trick yourself into thinking it's kind of healthy. The toppings were plentiful (see the photos I uploaded). The pizzas came out super quick. I started with a roasted beet salad. It was insane how much goat cheese and how many beets were in my salad. Awesome. Free refills on fountain drinks. The Funguy pizza was possibly my favorite, though we had three pizzas to split including that, the Margherita and the Greek. So many awesome mushrooms! It reminded me of the one that Crust has. Our waitress was really attentive and sweet. I will definitely go back here.
(5)Kelly C.
We ate here in the fall and haven't had a chance to return, but really enjoyed the experience. The pizzas were very good, with an enjoyable sweetness to the crust. Service was attentive, and the warm opening bread was delicious. But what I remember most fondly was the salad of heirloom tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and a balsamic reduction. The tomatoes had most likely been plucked from the Farmer's Market that morning, and the combination was just fantastic. We will return.
(5)Monica H.
This place is just down the street from my apartment, and I have to admit I was delighted to have another decent place to eat on Harrison. I've been here a few times now, and I'm still happy we have it - but I feel like there is still a lot of unrealized potential. Part of the problem for me is the atmosphere. It's large and cavernous, and its hard to hear the people at your table on a busy evening. The menu seems to position itself as an upscale Italian place with its entrees, but the staff is dressed in t-shirts and jeans. I'll admit, this is still a great place to get an appetizer and a drink (their drink menu is especially good for a place in OP), but for now I'll stick to pizza instead of their pasta/meat dishes, which I've been consistently disappointed by.
(3)Adrian W.
I came in here for a quick bite to eat. I was feeling quite spendy and decided to splurge to get myself back in a good mood. This place has been remodeled apparently. The mood of this place is quite appropriate for couples out on a date. I had come here about 7 o clock and was quickly seated and served. I had the goat cheese salad since I was hungry but not really. The portion was nice, filled me up just right. Had a quick Sprite and was out the door. I will say again, this place would be nice to have a sit down meal with someone and touch up on life essentially. Calming and just overall pleasant.
(4)Laura O.
This place has a lot of potential for this Harrison Arts district in the Oak Park neighborhood! This place opened a few months ago! It's a casual dining place for couples, friends, and family. One of the things that attracted me to this place is that they use local producers and organic food when possible. My favorite appetizer is the fresh mozzarella wrapped in proscuitto with pesto sauce! I really enjoy their wood oven baked beet salad! YUM! I also have tried their wood-oven organic whole wheat pizzas. So far- the Goat pizza is the best one. Try it out!
(4)Randi B.
The rosemary lemonade and The Goat pizza are delicious, as is the grilled mozzarella and prosciutto. Too bad the service sucks. This one time, my boyfriend and I only ordered a pizza to split between the two of us. The portions are generous and we weren't that hungry, you know? But this server barely acknowledged us after he realized we only wanted a pizza, and never refilled our water. Yeah, bastard, sorry we don't have a big bill that evening, but it doesn't mean you have the right to be a dick about it. In fact, you were such a dick that we didn't leave you a tip.
(2)Brittany H.
Best pear martinis! And The Goat pizza is so yummy!!!
(5)Lisa B.
This new restaurant calls itself "rustic italian dining." It has some of the best wood-fired pizzas that we've eaten in a long time. I had the BLT pizza -- oven roasted tomato, pancetta and arugula on the house cheese blend. It was a tender, chewy crust with a nice dark char on the outer rim, and the toppings were fresh and well balanced. My adventurous son chose the white clam pizza, and my hubby tried the pepperoni. All were pleased. They have a kids' menu with a few pizzas and pastas. There seems to be an emphasis on local and organic produce. The loaf of bread that came out at the start was warm, tender, and toothsome, served with wonderful olive oil. "Artisan" gelato and sorbetto are also available, but we didn't try them. Service was a little spotty (our waitress, a vegetarian, was unable to describe any entree with meat or fish in it), and the noise level was pretty high (we had to shout to be heard) but altogether a very promising neighborhood spot in east Oak Park. EDIT -- The BLT pizza mentioned above was included in Chicago Magazine's list of the 224 best dishes in Chicago. If you aren't really hungry make sure you split it with someone because it is huge and it doesn't re-warm well at home.

This place has quickly become one of my favorite places to frequent. I've now dined here four times and each visit has been an exceptional experience. I've had their beet and goat cheese salad a couple of times and it's out of this world - as long as you love beets as much as I do! I've also had their pizza "The Goat" (yes, I've got some sort of goat/beet fetish) and their butternut squash ravioli - both better than I expected. I find their prices reasonable and their wine list is pretty good. I like their down to earth staff and clean but cozy decor. I would recommend eating here. Apparently we were pretty lucky tonight. We showed up around 6pm without reservations and I heard them turning people down who didn't hold reservations up until at least 8pm. If you're in the area, stop by - they're worth it! ----UPDATE----- So, now I'm a regular here - I love the atmosphere, the friendly, relaxed staff and, of course, the great food. I think I dine here about every other week (or more) and my friends and family are about as taken with 225 as I am. They just posted that they do brunch now, so I'm going to have try it out.
(4)Brian S.
The day this place opened it instantly became the best restaurant in Oak Park. While that statement says more about how bad Oak Park eateries are, it should not undermine the effort that has gone into 225. I've dined here twice, and the service has been a little hectic, as has been the crowds. I think hectic service is something to be expected of a new popular restaurant, especially one that has taken the level of eats in the area up a notch. The good news is the food, while not superior, is above average. The meal starts off with a Labriola sourdough mini loave, served warm, a nice touch. Pizzas are good (excellent for OP), ingredients in the salad/pasta dishes I've had were fresh and tasty. Once the buzz dies down, and the service is honed, this will be a top restaruant in the area.
(4)Chris K.
This is a new place that just opened up in the Harrison Street Arts District. If you are really into specialty wood oven cooked pizzas you will probably enjoy this place. Its definitely a little on the loud side in the dining room and the menu could use a little more diversity. I will say that my wife and I were at Trattoria the first month it opened though so they may have changed things up a bit since then.
(2)Anne K.
I drop in to Trattoria every so often and each time it's an awesome experience. The staff is super nice. They're quick, but not to the point where you feel that they want you to leave. The dining room is spacious with high ceilings and great artwork. The kitchen is open so you can see what's going on with your food. Bathrooms are very clean. Prices could drop by about $1-$2 per dish, but then again this is "real cotton" white table cloth and one of very few cosmopolitan places around Oak Park. When you sit down you are always welcomed by a fresh out of the oven baguette with quality olive oil and shreadded parmasan. If you come with children, they'll get their own set of crayons and paper. Just about always I start off with the grilled octopus salad ($9) and a glass of wine. Last night I tried their Christmas Kiss martini and it was to DIE FOR!!! A bit pricey at $12, but soooo worth it. I think I might just go back there just for cocktails. Pasta dishes range between $14-$18 and the portions are decent to fill you up. I ordered their Frutti De Mare special ($18) and it was the best pasta dish I have ever had at Trattoria and just about anywhere. I hope they add it to their regular menu. I've never had their pizza (as I'm not a pizza fan), but from they way they look on customers tables, that would probably be the only pizza I would ever consider trying. I highly recommend this restaurant for romatic dinners, meeting up friends for cocktails, or to parents who are seeking a trendy and hip child friendly restaurant .
(5)Margo L.
Great food and atmosphere. The clam pizza is amazing and they have a good wine list. The only reason I give it a 3 instead of 4 stars in the wait staff. I've been in twice and both times received wrong orders without apology and the second time we basically felt like we were bothering our waiter when we had to ask for a second glass of wine/some water, etc. Will return for the food - would love to see some staff improvements. UPDATE: Have now been back a dozen times or so and can say that the staff are so much friendlier. The food is still great so I am happy to be able to give this another star!

I'll just be simple with this review.... Food tastes good but is too expensive. $16 dollars for a pizza that feeds one person. This is not a touristy area in the city... it's Harrison St. Oak Park. Perhaps this is why I don't see the restaurant packed like 2-3 years ago. I can get a lot more for my money somewhere else.

My new favorite place for pizza! Trattoria 225 has a fun atmosphere and very tasty food. The place is loud and lively with bar seating so only go there for dinner if you don't mind a little happy chaos. Much of the food is made with fresh organic ingredients and the pizzas come on a crispy whole wheat crust--try the BLT pizza--amazing. I've never been disappointed. They do great take out too and use recyclable containers for it. My only gripe is that some of the seating is a little awkward. For instance there are a few tables that are too close to the door and let in a draft or sometimes I've sat at tables that are just plain uncomfortably close to other tables. But, I've learned to get over that if its a busy night or just wait for what I want.

My wife and had dinner at Trattoria 225 about a week go. I still have mixed feeling about the experience. We were seated right away, but didn't see our server for 10 + minutes. This normally wouldn't bother me, but once she did stop over I realized she walked passed us about 4 or 5 times going back and forth to other customers. I'm a big fan of just stopping by and saying, "I'll be right with you," if you're busy. Beyond that our server was very friendly and attentive from that point on. We had proscutto wrapped mozzarella as an appetizer which was great. Conversely my entree was a little lackluster. The callamari in my pasta was so over cooked that I wasn't conviced I was eating rubber. Other than that the rest of my seafood in my dish was good. Overall I would call this an OK experience and would go back if my wife wanted to, but wouldn't be banging down the door myself to go again.

We've gone here about 5 or 6 times now. I've also taken my mom who has a lot of opinions about food - even more than I do. We like coming here because it's a great neighborhood, the people are very friendly who hang out in Oak Park, and there is a big playground on the way home that our kids like in the summer. The restaurant is really well decorated with interesting and engaging art work. They choose great lighting and colors that make you feel like you're out in a cool place. We've often eaten their pizza. It's more of a Tuscan style pizza rather than Roman, slightly doughier crust with more toppings. They've burned the edges slightly on most pizza's we've had and I'm not sure if that is part of the charm or not, in any case not bad enough to ruin it (and we don't eat crusts anyhow). I liked all the toppings, but especially sausage and mushroom. Pasta special was really great, they make an awesome fresh tomato sauce. My mom really liked her raw Kobe Burger. The appetizers are quite small. But they are tasty. At about 6pm, this place is really kid friendly. Lots of high chairs and kids feel very welcome. They have crayons and paper for them and a kids menu with some cheesy pasta that they both liked a lot. A couple of times we had to remind the waiter to bring the juice/milk with the kids meal. They are just sort of stingy with wine. This annoys me. They have these glasses without stems and they fill them up about 1/4 of the way. You have to decide if you want the large and small, and whenever I get the large I feel jipped because the glass is just so empty. It made me annoyed enough to stay away for about 3 months.

The noise was so loud it destroyed any memory I might have of the food. When we shouted our complaint about the noise, the staff shouted back, "There's nothing we can do about it." Well, there's something I can do about it -- stay away.

I've only eaten here once, but wasn't impressed. The interior looks nice and I was excited to see this place open in the OP arts district. Unfortunately the food fell flat and the service was mediocre. I haven't been back. They have a decent beer/wine list.

This is a hard review to write because I was basically satisifed with what I had. However, my husband was dissappointed and I could see why. I went in with low expectations as I am always suspicious of the Oak Park "trendy offerings" when there are about 50 kids running around. I ordered the beet and goat cheese salad and thought it was really good - fresh and tasty - not too much cheese and enough beets. For netrees, I got the Linguine with shrimp and spinach and my husband had the bacon-wrapped pork with sweet potatoes. I could see from my side of the table that his pork was dry - not just a little over-cooked, we are talking, need to soak in water to rehydrate kind of dry. Bacon is supposed to help keep the meat moist, but there was no saving this. As for my pasta, it was tasty and the shrimp was well-cooked, but the portion was like a tastings size. And for $17, I would expect more than 4 shrimp and maybe a cup of noodles?? I was glad I ordered the salad when I saw the size of my meal. Another point off for yet another place leaving the tails on the shrimp and my only having a butter knife to deal with it. I am guessing, from the other tables, that the pizzas are the star here, but I am way over the trendy "woodfire" pizzas with your "unique" toppings. There are plenty of tranditional pizza places I could go to and be satisifed and not feel ripped off. Also, the on-tap beer was totally flat. (his order, again, not mine - my coke was fine). Service was very good, out waitress was not to blame for the slow kitchen not getting entrees out for 40 minutes, but I just can't give this place more than a couple stars based on food and pricing.

I've been here repeatedly and I really enjoy their atmosphere, food and service. I'd probably go 3.5 stars because I don't think I'd go out of my way to go here but it's a great neighborhood restaurant for the arts district in Oak Park.
(4)Rita I.
Great location in the Arts district. Love 2 for 1 pizza Tuesday night. Favorite pizzas are 3 Little Pigs and the Goat. Awesome salads to start as well. They offer specials that come with salads too. Very reasonably priced and comfy feel. Family friendly.
(4)Brian S.
This is a cute little place, I personally don't have a lot of range food-wise but they have really tasty pizzas from a wood burning oven. I like to get the Margherita pizza and it is just wonderful.

We've been going here for years now since it first opened. Now with the new management, it seems like they are trying to put more expensive items on the menu. For being a family restaurant, the prices are just too high. Besides the pizzas which I like, everything else on the menu, especially the pastas is extremely subpar and not worth the money. We have not been happy with the service either. My husband has some allergies and when we asked them to make some changes, the waitress checked with the cooks and it was obvious they were too lazy to saute some fresh mushrooms to add to our food. They also aren't as knowledgable about the ingredients in their food which is problematic when we do have allergies. All in all, the place has sadly gone downhill. It used to be one of our favorite local places.

If you came here when they first opened and were confused by the waitstaff recorking your red wine (after struggling to open it in the first place), or the inconsistency of the food, get over it and try again. After over a year this place seems to be growing into its fabulous loft-like space. I've been a fan since day one when I fell in love with the whole wheat crusts. Unfortunately they stopped serving whole wheat pasta (sadface) but who cares because I never ordered it anyway. The staff is friendly, the menu has some fantastic items, and the prices are reasonable. Favorite thing: the BLT pizza (pancetta, tomatoes, topped with mixed greens) The dessert menu sometimes has a lovely panna cotta, and the calamari is beautifully prepared and presented on a lovely salad of mixed greens. This is one of the best things to happen to Harrison Street in awhile (unless you are a fan of those red flyswatter thingys, which are growing on me...)

This is such a comfortable, go-to place for us. We go fairly regularly with our two kids, but also have brought a bunch of kids for dinner after a show, my parents when they were in from out of town and other couples for an adult meal. It just seems to work for whatever we need. We've also done Sunday brunches for special occasions. We've enjoyed everything - the wine, the cocktails, the grilled Caesar, the pizza, the entrees - the pork with bacon, the tilapia, the pasta, the desserts. This is the place we go when we want to be assured of a good meal out. The ingredients are fresh and flavorful and distinct. This is a place for people who like savory, rustic Italian food - complete with herbs, olives, olive oil, garlic, prosciutto and marinated or grilled vegetables. We were pleasantly thrown off this evening by the appearance of a build-your-own antipasti starter menu. We had fun selecting a few different items - some were outstanding and some were ok. But it showed some kitchen creativity and gave us another reason to come back - the antipasti platter would allow for a nice tapas snack before or after an evening show. It's just a really good place.

Good food, good service! Would definitely return if we were in the area.

Nice atmosphere. Wood-fired pizza definitely good. Had a marginal meal there 6 months ago, but was willing to give it another chance, then had another marginal experience NY eve. Had to send my steak back - ordered medium rare - got it and no pink at all. Got back an over-compensated rare steak in its place. Not good.

Really good service, and very family-friendly.

We had lunch after my son's baptism yesterday and everything was great. Food was so good and our waitress dealt with having 20 people to serve at the same time just fine. The pizza is amazing...we will definitely go back for more soon.
(4)Andrew J.
This is a great place to eat, especially if it's nice out and you're exploring Harrison street. I had the thin crust pizza, and it was great. Will definitely be back.

I visited here for the first time a couple weeks ago, although I had been eyeing it for a long time. It was very good! Our waiter was super nice and made recommendations since we'd never been there before. For appetizers we had the baked goat cheese which was amazing and the grilled mozerella with prosciutto which was also wonderful. It had a really nice smoky flavor. Like most Italian restaurants they give you bread with olive oil and parmesan. It's nice though that the bread is nice and warm as opposed to cold bread that has probably been sitting around all day. Anyway for dinner I had the butternut squash ravioli ( i think this may have been on special) which i really enjoyed. It was nice to have something a little lighter than the typical italian fare in red sauce. My husband had some chicken dish which consisted of a huge half a chicken, and he ate the whole thing so I assume he enjoyed it. My dad had the seafood pasta special and he was very happy with it as well. Overall a good experience. They have a nice atmosphere, some people were on dates, some people were with there children, so nothing pretentious. Oh and my dad poured the concrete that they made the bar out of (i think that is why he really wanted to go there to show off probably the more artistic thing he's ever built out of cement) I liked this place and I'll probably be back.

Have been there once. The food was very good. You can hardly go wrong when you use good, fresh ingredients. I plan to go back.

the more i go to 225, the more i dislike it. and honestly...i think it's this server (the loiterer form my first review)...he's terrible! why does this guy have a job at a restaurant??!! he has no personality and interrupted our meal so many times, yet never offered us anything else (we had to ask for the dessert menu and he never filled our water glasses). the other night, we had the margherita pizza and my friend and i argued about who HAD to take it home. my husband's ravioli was still chilly in the middle. the desserts were tasty though....
(2)Giacomo M.
We go here often as we can walk there. The wood fired goat pizzas are fabuloso! We had the shrimp scampi for appetizers and our guest had some more for her main dish, it was that good. My wife had the stuffed chicken with fresh mozarella cheese. I had the grilled rack of lamb, perfect. They use fresh farmer's market vegetables. Wonderful. For desert we went to "Gelato Uno" on Roosevelt in Berwyn. WOW beautiful display and tastes just as good as it looks - Buon Appertito !

Yummy! Yet another Oak Park gem in the Oak Park Arts District. I have eaten here several times and I am NEVER disappointed. The best thing may be the owner, he is ensuring quality food, quality staff, offers private events and if ya have kids they are free on Mondays! How great! I've gone for graduation parties, with friends to the bar, out to eat with friends and each time the experience was above par. Classy environment with a touch of home. We'll be back!

I seldom take time to review a restaurant, but our experience was so bad I thought I owed it to other patrons making a choice. We live in Oak Park and usually head to Taylor Street for Italian. We always pass Trattoria 225 and always say we should try. It always seems crowded, indicating popularity. First we were forgotten at the bar and when the owner saw us he remembered and quickly got us to a table. The service was very friendly and good, however she was not knowledgable about the foot. There was a private party in the front of the restaurant which made conversation difficult. However, if the food would have been good it would have more than made up for it. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The salads are boring and are virtually, salad from a bag with a slice of winter tomato on the side. Our two pasta dishes were bland, under seasoned and the seafood was over-cooked and rubbery in texture. It just put a damper on the entire night, since we wanted it to be special! I so wanted it to be good, and be a hidden gem close to home!

Five stars for being the best gluten free pizza delivery in the area - by far. We've loved all their pizzas and salads, and tried some of the apps and entrees with a good rate of success. Pizza are about as pricey as most premium or GF pizzas, but actually worth it for once. Thank goodness for this place!

For the GLUTEN FREE PIZZA CRUST, I say hooray! The grilled squid is also delicious. And yes, their olive oil is supreme and their desserts are big enough to share. But it's a bit pricey for fairly basic cooking, and the servers can seem young and inexperienced for such a formal restaurant. I encourage 225 to not worry so much about pleasing a midwest palate and be more experimental in their combinations.

Who's writing these reviews? People with damaged taste buds? First, I ordered a gluten free-pizza from Trattoria 225 for delivery. It showed up and was a puffy, crispy, circle of deliciousness, nothing like the gluten free-pizzas I usually get. I was so excited that when I had a craving for pizza again, I decided to visit the restaurant itself. My boyfriend and I ordered a gluten free-pizza as an appetizer, then two entrees. I awaited my pizza with great anticipation, as I saw the same puffy, crispy, circle of deliciousness I had received via delivery come to the table next to me. And another table. And another table. Wow, I thought! This place is really known for its gluten free-pizza! Then my pizza came. It looked like a deflated pancake. It was NOT the same as the pizza I had delivered, which could mean only one thing: The pizza I had delivered was not gluten-free. Celiacs, take note. Still, the pancake pizza was better than the other food. The salads were identical to those iceberg salads you get in a bag at Jewel-Osco. Or just Osco; this was drugstore salad. My gluten-free eggplant parmesan -- zzzzzzz. My boyfriend's pasta -- inedible. We ordered another gluten free-pizza to compensate. It came out underdone. We sent it back for more cooking. It came out underdone again. We gave up and ate the spongy pizza. My boyfriend tried to drown his sorrows in his fancy cocktail, something with cucumber vodka and lime, but it was undrinkable. We aren't the kind of people to waste a good beverage, either. Throughout this order, our server was bizarrely disconnected to the fact that we had piles of uneaten food on the table, and barely nodded when we told her we were displeased. She seemed to have something Asperger's-like going on. Ultimastely, the server came back with the check and comped the pasta and the second pizza, which was nice, but I still felt like it wasn't enough given how distressing the entire experience was. Also -- a trifling complaint given everything else -- but when there are dozens of empty tables in a room the size of a gymnasium, why do you seat the couple with the kids right next to the couples looking all cozy and romantic???? Why, restaurants? Every time? Why?

Every time I visit Trattoria 225, I find myself wishing that it were more crowded. This stretch of Harrison seems to ebb and flow sometimes with business, so hopefully it's on an upswing because it's such a cute street with fun stores, restaurants, etc. I really enjoy Trattoria 225 for a casual dinner. Their pizzas are perfectly thin and crispy and delicious! I usually think they are too large for one person...that is, until I finish them. I haven't tried anything there except for pizza, and I really do like the pizza. I think the service is sometimes a bit slow, but usually very friendly. In the summer, there are tables on Harrison and when the weather is nice, this is a good option for seating. I did visit once last summer when their air conditioning was out (and, considering half of oak park had no power at all, it was amazing they were open!), and we had to eat outside to risk melting inside. They were very helpful about ensuring everyone was comfortable even though it was a warm summer day. The wines can be half sizes or full pours. The value is pretty good, though a bit pricey for this stretch of Oak Park. However, the quality is high, service friendly and food is delicious, so well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Went there with my wife for our anniversary. I've never been there before, so I had no clue what to expect. It was not a very intimate place. That is not impacting my review...jut think it's helpful to know if you are looking for an intimate dining experience. I had the tilapia and my wife had the primavera. Neither dish had much flavor. I have actually never had tilapia with less flavor than I had here. There was just nothing memorable about our meal. Having said that, they have a gluten free menu, which is important to us, so we will go back an try another dish. We might have just picked dishes that weren't their strong suit. Feels like pizza might be their thing, & they have the other stuff on the menu for folks that don't like/want pizza.

Mushroom appetizer with spinach was awesome. Get extra bread for the juice. Huge portions make you feel its worth the cost. Good service and atmosphere. Would definitely go back.

We tried Trattoria 225 after my 8 year-old (the foodie) had a field trip at the restaurant with his 2nd grade class at Longfellow Elementary. The owner was lovely and the staff were very attentive. What I was very excited about was the fact that they can make any pizza with a gluten free crust (YAY!) It was really delicious. I also really enjoyed the beet salad. Kids eat free on Mondays (which we will definitely try in the future). It is more than your average pizza (mine was $13), but not overpriced for the quality/taste, in my opinion. Give it a try!
(4)Paul L.
The food was pretty good, however the attitude of the Manager/GM/Owner was sub-par. Party of 10 with a few kids can make for some unexpected times, however management couldn't help but make a passive aggressive comment to my 2 year old. Would have been more adult to say it to the parent, therefore this place gets a whopping 3 stars.
(3)Carissa C.
Great place... Everything is so fresh. Have to get... Mozzarella/prosciutto appetizer Beet salad Baked Penne And the Risotto Plus they offer 5 new entrees every week! I tried a couple of them... so good. I never have had a complaint. On Wednesdays they have half price on every bottle of wine they offer... and when we don't finish we get to take it home... can't beat that!
(5)Jeanette G.
Went to Trattoria 225 earlier this week. While I knew that Tuesdays was their buy one get one for pizzas, we were looking for something close to home and that answered my pasta craving. Great ambiance, very spacious. They have a bar that had a few customers watching whatever game was on but there were many diners. However, the service was really great. I had the special gnocchi sautéed with vegetables (spinach, mushrooms, zucchini, tomatoes) with cheese in an oil based sauce. It was awesome! I figured I'd have left some left over for lunch the next day... NOPE! I ate it all and was very satisfied. Price is reasonable as well - with two entrees (that both came with house salads) and one glass of wine I think the total came out to be under $50. I'll definitely be back!
(4)Elisabeth H.
Had my sons 8th grade graduation family dinner here it was the best dinning experience ever! It was about 15 of us and they where very attentive and the food was Amazing!!!
(5)Melanie and Liz D.
We've been here a few times. Great place for pretty much any occasion. Yes, at times there kids, but fortunately, most parents seem to have a handle on their kids here. The food is quite good. We're pizza addicts and would have to say the pizza is just ok. You can get a better pie elsewhere. The salads and pasta dishes are very good. The butternut squash ravioli is pretty good - the pasta was a little dry, but overall, delicious. Fennel sausage pasta also very good, and we did NOT find it to taste like chorizo as Vanessa K. did. Great wine selection, great cocktails. Service has always been friendly. For my tastes, just about everything is a *bit* too buttery, but not to the point where I don't like it. Prices are good - this is like upscale eating on a budget.
(4)Nancy P.
Terrible. The music was loud and the dining space was so open that all the patrons talk over each other to hear. The pizza was greasy, the waitress was insulting and the chunk of meat they called a chicken was unappetizing.
(2)Michael D.
They were very accommodating to a large group of us for Sunday brunch, including children (who eat for free during March!). The breakfast pizza was great and the service was nice.
(4)Gina M.
Can you say AMAZING? Trattoria 225 is 5 star. Very laidback, comfortable feel to it. You feel welcomed. You are greeted when you right walk in and you sit down pretty much right away. The food is ADDICTIVE and deserts are really fantastic too.
(4)michele l.
The food was fine, it's hard to judge it because it was clouded over by the service. No refills on water, the waiter didn't ask if we wanted more bread or anything that could have been FREE. And he wouldn't clear any dishes out of our way. He delivered our main courses while my salad plate sat next to me and he ignored it even though I was obviously done. I think that he was waiting for a busboy to clear it. And so it sat there for a good 30 minutes. Then when I was done with my dinner, my dish sat there in front of me for about 15-20 minutes. He came by to see if he could add anything to our check, like dessert, coffee, or more alcoholic beverages--anything to boost the price of the check and hence his tip. But the guy would not remove any dirty dishes. Laziness at its height, let me tell you. And our table obviously had a wobble in it, so much that my martini almost spilled when he set it down. He just ignored it even though there were about 10 other empty tables we could have moved to.....I wouldn't make this a regular place. If the staff doesn't care about us, why would I go back? A server at a Denny's would have paid more attention to clearing dirty plates out of our way.
(2)Lisa M.
I loved the look of the restaurant....but the service was slow, the pizza was greasy. My husband had fish which was well seasoned and the vegetables were tasty. We don't plan on going again.
